Former senator reveals the 1 way to take back Washington

CONSTITUTION

WASHINGTON – Many outsiders believe modern-day Washington is overrun with corrupt elected officials who pander to special interests, as well as unelected bureaucrats who possess alarming levels of authority.

Some insiders, too.

And after serving six years in the U.S. House of Representatives and 10 more years in the Senate, Tom Coburn has set his sights on taking down this Washington establishment.

In his book “Smashing the DC Monopoly: Using Article V to Restore Freedom and Stop America’s Runaway Government,” Coburn outlines his plan to take America back using the ultimate authority in the land – the Constitution.

Coburn cites Article V, which states the Constitution may be amended if two-thirds of the state legislatures apply to Congress to call a convention for proposing amendments. To date, 12 states of the 34 required have joined Coburn’s movement calling for a convention.

Are you tired of D.C. elitists looking out only for their own interests? The federal government will never willingly relinquish the powers it has usurped – it’s up to We the People to wrest control from an overreaching federal leviathan and give it back to our state and local representatives where it belongs. Retired U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn reveals how we can do that in “Smashing the DC Monopoly: Using Article V to Restore Freedom and Stop America’s Runaway Government,” available now at the WND Superstore.

Coburn recently appeared on “The Mark Levin Show” to discuss the movement and its future.

“I gave up 16 years of my life because I actually believe our country is worth fighting for,” Coburn said on the show. “And what I came to the conclusion in year 16 is we’re not going to fix our problems in Washington. The careerists control it, the special interests control it, the monied interests control it, so what we’ve seen is this mass concentration of power and this buildup of the federal government and the real loss of liberty above individuals, their families, and their states.”

According to Coburn, a Convention of States is “the only solution that we have to get our country back on track.”

Coburn continued: “When you talk to people who don’t know about Article V, they get excited. We actually can do something! And we can actually bring power back to the states, and we can force the federal government to make hard decisions that they’re refusing to make today.”

Levin added that those living in states with a dearth of liberty-minded people can aid the movement as well.

“I’ve had a lot of callers say, ‘I live in California, and they’re never gonna go along with this.’ And I’ve always said, ‘Well then help other states!‘”

Levin said: “You don’t just have to take this. We don’t have to just accept what some people think is inevitable.”

With the growth of the movement, opposition has arisen.

According to Coburn, “We’ve now attracted the left, and George Soros, and 230 organizations, so we know we’re doing something right. Because the statist, socialist, Marxists that wanna be in control know that we’re a threat.”

As with any grassroots conservative movement, the powers that be have set themselves against the voice of the people, he said.

Coburn ultimately stresses that “we may not even ever have to go to convention.”

“As soon as they feel their power threatened, what will happen is that they’ll start actually making the tough decisions that we sent them up there to make in the first place.”
